WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CITIZEN OF THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH

MY NATION

$789 Billion.  Wow.

That, supposedly, is the price tag for the Economic Recovery Package that has been agreed upon the Senate.  Now, it goes back to Congress for more dicking around with.  However, there is rumor that this might not be a totally done deal, just a mostly done deal (Apparently, $10 Billion in school funds is in question).

I have mixed feelings.  I want the economy to recover.  I want us to do everything we can to spur economic growth.  But when Government has to step in and force the economy to grow, how can we call this Capitalism?  I had hoped for recovery signs sooner.  There are none.  I guess we have to do this.

My second objection is based on the past history of government spending.  The more our government spends, the more it tends to lose, or waste.  I don’t think anyone could argue against that point with anything resembling credibility.  Let’s face it, our elected officials cannot be trusted when it comes to managing large sums of money.  We citizens aren’t sick of politicians without cause.

The thrust of my post, however, lands on the side of supporting it because we have made the decision to do it.  I may not like it, but I do like being a United States citizen, and it’s time for us to move forward with whatever we have to work with, and make the best of it.  That’s what it means to live here, and to be a citizen of the greatest country on earth.
