POLITCAL PARTIES OF AMERICA DIVIDE, NOW IS THE TIME OF STRIFE IN MY NATION

This is our Government in action

This is our Government in action

The results of the vote regarding the “bailout” plan (it’s not a bailout!) are further evidence that political parties in our country are a deterrent to the well being of our people, and our economy in general.

In one of the most hotly contested, and important votes of our time, partisan politics ruled the day.  Rather than staying to get something done, both parties chose instead to play the blame game, and then leave for a Jewish Holiday.  They chose to leave to defend their seats in their upcoming elections.

Political Party:  It’s all about getting re-elected, and not a whit about serving country.

How many people think that without political parties, we’d be in this mess?

THE DAY THE MOB PANICKED

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 30, 2008

Just another busy day on Wall Street

Just another busy day on Wall Street

I laughed today, on my way back to the office from a meeting, as I listened to the Dow close lower and lower and lower.

I didn’t laugh because people lost money, or jobs disappeared.  I wasn’t even laughing about the point drop.  I was laughing because it just seemed so surreal, knowing this would happen, and being a witness to it.  I laughed because people are people, and in the end, they have a hard time doing what is best for themselves.  I laughed at the mainstream media, and their “sky is falling!” brand of reporting.  I lauged mostly, and most sadly, because America is the mob, and today, the mob panicked.

Of course it was predictable.  Even more predictable was the blame game going on in Washington.  I laughed about that, too.

Do I think this situation in my Country is funny?  No, I do not.

But I do find a sick sense of humor in the lemming-like approach most people take to investing.  I find a macabre sense of humor in the way the Mainstream Media makes its most money whenever disaster strikes.

I find it sad, I find it troubling, and I find that more and more, I am coming to believe that America’s Mainstream Media had as much to do with Wall Street’s meltdown as Wall Street itself.  “The sky is falling!”

The sun was still shining today, and the grass was growing.  The leaves are turning, as leaves are wont to do in Fall.  The streets were filled with bustling people, and everywhere, children were walking home safely from school.

The market took a dive today, but the end of the world is nowhere in sight…

despite what that talking head on television is saying.

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 29, 2008

So I’m watching the Green Bay Packers on Fox yesterday, and up comes a commercial break.  If you knew me at all, you’d know that I had already paused the game for a half hour, in order to fast forward through commercials.  But as I was fast forwarding, I caught a hazy glimpse of John McCain.  Next commercial break, while FF-ing, I saw Barrack Obama whiz past me.

It went on like this pretty much the entire first half, and part of the second half, with the two candidates desperately reaching out to a guy who was busy avoiding them for three hours on a Sunday afternoon, by using a remote control.  If only we could control all of our elected officials with a remote control, things might look better in Washington and at home.

As I look back, I can add another reason as to why Presidential Campaigns cost so much.  Not only did both candidates buy air time during one of the busiest timeslots in America, but neither candidate reached the audience they thought they would be reaching.  That’s because of good ol’ DVR, and our ability to blaze right past our politicians’ highly priced minute. I know Barrack wanted to sit down in my living room and have a conversation with me (more like talk AT me) for a bit.  I realize that John McCain just wants to share (steal?) my beer with (from) me.  But I’m just not willing let these guys in on my most private day of the week.

I’d bet I’m not the only one.  If I were running either campaign, Sunday afternoon time slots would be anathema.  I’d look at these opportunities to reach voters as guaranteed wastes of money instead.  If I’m spending $30 million dollars a month trying to win a campaign, I’m not going to be throwing crap against the wall hoping it sticks, and Sunday afternoon ads are like throwing crap against a wall.

BAILOUT PACKAGE IS A GOOD DEAL FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 28, 2008

We Gonna Get Yo' Money

We Gonna Get Yo Money

Having read the entire Bailout Bill (all 105 pages?), the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which includes a program named the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP, aww…how touching), I can say this is a good deal for the American People.

It could have been better, but it’s not bad.  Congress and The Secretary of the Treasury actually remembered to include an end date for the plan, which is December 31, 2009, and extend-able through 2011 with sufficient evidence to Congress that additional economic assistance is required for stability in the overall financial markets.

Phew!  Am I glad I don’t write legal documents.

Here’s the gist of the plan from my perspective.  Financial Institutions will have opportunity for loans from the Fed, as well as opportunities to both sell troubled Mortgage Bonds and shares of stock to the Fed, or purchase insurance from the Fed to guarantee principal on mortgage backed bonds and debt securites.

The Secretary of the Treasury has the authority to name the amount of premium institutions will pay for insurance on their investments, and to control pricing on any securities or bonds the government purchases from troubled banks.  This is a good thing for banks, who don’t need the inuendos that would arise if they were allowed to have any say  in how their troubled securities and debts are valued.

Congress has oversight on just about everything the Secretary will do in this bill. Key to that was also adding caps on executive salaries, as well as eliminating Golden Umbrellas for the top five executives of any participating company for as long as that company receives Federal aid.

Key to American Taxpayers is that this isn’t free money being given to big investors and banks, which had earlier been feared.  At best, for lending institutions, this is a low interest loan.  At worst, it is outright government ownership (and thus taxpayer ownership) of bonds and securities which shall, in the case of stocks, be sold at profit, and in the case of bonds, be held until maturity, all the while collecting interest on the principal.  One caveat; bonds purchased by the government can be sold only if deemed profitable.

The earnings from these investments are to be used to reduce the National Debt, and in essence, pay taxpayers back.

The only thing I would do differently is to apply some of those earnings towards rebuilding the strength of our Social Security system.. I feel this is our best opportunity to do so, and I think in that one specific instance, Congress missed an excellent opportunity.

Otherwise, this “Bailout” works strongly in the favor of the American taxpayer.

That is my non-partisan perspective.  Today, Government gets an “‘atta’ boy!”

OBAMA AND MCCAIN SAY A LOT

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 27, 2008

Here’s what I got out of last night’s debate between Senator’s Obama and McCain:

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blahblah, blahblahblahblah, blah, blah, blah

I’d call the debate a rousing success for both of them, wouldn’t you?

OBAMA CAN SPEND THIRTY MILLION A MONTH, BUT CAN’T PAY FOR TWENTY COFFEES

GOT ANY CHANGE?

GOT ANY CHANGE?

From the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen

By HANK SNYDER/Staff Reporter

WAUPUN — Barack Obama’s Wisconsin Campaign for Change left no change in Waupun last week.

The presidential candidate’s campaign staff arrived at the Chit Chat Cafe at 324 E. Main St., last Tuesday to hold a round table discussion about Obama and his positions.

More than 40 people crowded the family restaurant.

But when it came time to leave, the campaign staff got up and left, refusing to pay the tab for coffee.

“When they came the place was full and they started talking,” said the waitress Amanda, who didn’t want to use her last name. “Then some people said they couldn’t hear, and so they stood up and started giving a speech, talking loud enough for everyone to hear.

“We didn’t even know they were having a meeting here.”

Amanda said it started last week when two men came in to eat. “After they ate they asked if we could reserve a table for 10 people for next week. We said sure. We didn’t know it was for a meeting.

“We didn’t know what was going on Tuesday. I didn’t know anything about this. They never told us, but they had press releases, and were on the radio, and called people to come.”

As the campaign staff started walking out, a startled Amanda stopped them at the door and  asked who was going to pay for the coffee.

“One man said he only had $10, and another said they had to hurry on to the next meeting in Watertown,” Amanda said.

About 20 cups of coffee weren’t paid for but that small amount didn’t concern Chit Chat owner Debbie Vanden Boom.

“It’s the principle of the matter. Had they said they were having a meeting and many people would be coming and could the coffee be complimentary, it wouldn’t have been a problem,” she said.

“On top of that, Amanda never even got a tip.”

This from the Politician Who Will Change Washington…but apparently, he doesn’t have any change for a tip.

AN INDECISIVE CRACK WHORE

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 24, 2008

The FBI is investigating twenty-six companies related to the sub-prime mortgage meltdown, including executives from those companies.  Included in the list will be Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae executives, along with insurance Giant AIG, Lehmann Brothers, and a host of others.  “Someone always has to go to jail”.

On a lighter note, Congress is having trouble passing the 700 Billion Dollar bailout plan put forth by President Bush and friends. Apparently, there’s not enough room on the paper the bill is written for the twenty-seven hundred earmarks the politicians thought would they slam through with this “most necessary piece of legislation”.

Also, the other day, I was lambasted  on another website (won’t name them, I’m not going to smear anyone by name) as a “nature hating, unborn fetus lovin’, inbred, uneducated, beer swillin’ hillbilly independent” because I refused to throw my hat in the ring of support for our lord and most reverent Barrack Obama.

I was told that being an independent meant being a traitor; that I should show my affiliation for one party or another, rather than sitting on the fence like an indecisive crack-whore.  “Umm, pardon me,” I responded, “but aren’t crack whores fairly decisive in that they at least know what they want?”

I was told that I was missing the point.

Oh…I don’t think I missed your point, Mr. Lemming.  I don’t think I missed it at all.  You want me to be free  and an individual, just like you, and join a political party so I can rant and rave at all the other independents who refuse to give affiliation to two parties who have had more to do with my nation’s downturn than anything else.  You want me to be an individual so long as I agree with you and your Political Party.

You want me to florish as an American in the Two Party System, and throw my allegiance to a pack of hyenas, ahem, people, who only have my best interests at heart…so long as my interests agree with theirs.

I answered, “So you want me to join the Nazi party, is that your point?”

I’ve been chuckiling ever since.

CONGRESS DRILLS FOR OIL

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 17, 2008

Another worthless measure from our lowly esteemed House of representatives.  Read about it here:

OFFSHORE DRILLING APPROVED

An approval rating of about ten percent.  In case you are stupid, like me, and like the two major Parties think we are, that means one in ten Americans believe congress is doing a good job.  Of course, when your poll asks one thousand people (one hundred of them Democrat congresspeople), you’ll get that ten percent you’re looking for.

Go Congress!!  Way to pass that off shore drilling measure that allows us to drill in places where there is no oil!  You go congress!!  You Rock!

Folks, what do you call a piece of legislation that accomplishes absolutley nothing?  Please answer in the comments section, if there is anybody here.

My answer?  I call a piece of legislation that acccomplishes nothing a waste of time, an insult to Americans, and another dagger in the heart of the Democratic and Republican Parties.

Keep up the good work, Congress!!

OBAMA AND MCCAIN’S ECONOMIC IDIOCY

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 17, 2008

As best as I can track it, our national debt is 9.4 trillion dollars.  That’s $9,400,000,000,000.

That’s a lot of money, and a lot of zeroes.  (why do we add an “e” when we make “zero” plural?)  During this election campaign, Democratic candidate Barrack Obama, and Republican candidate John McCain say they have an economic plan to fix our economic woes.  Both plans start by cutting taxes.

While cutting taxes sounds good, and has been used as political capital by candidates for decades, with our current national debt, it’s just not feasible.  Not a good plan; try again.

Think about it. Does it make fiscal sense, when in debt, to reduce earning capacity?  That would be like you or me owing one million dollars in debt, and cutting our working hours from forty to thirty to improve our economic prospects.  if I did that, you’d call me an idiot, wouldn’t you?

So what do we call two politicians running for president whose best plan is to cut our nation’s income in the face of so much debt?  One of two things is happening here: either the candidates are lying and will raise taxes as they must (and also cut wasteful spending, which is another post by itself), or both candidates really are as clueless as they look when you analyze their economic plans.

Barrack Obama and John McCain.

Question to the Democratic and Republican parties:  Is this really the best you could come up with?

The American people deserve better.  You must think we are stupid.

AMERICANS ARE SUBSIDIZING THEIR OWN JOB LOSSES

Posted by politicalpartypooper on September 16, 2008

A tax law written during the Kennedy years is to blame for a large portion of jobs leaving US soil. That law was put into effect during the Cold War, to encourage investment abroad, and project American influence, all in an effort to combat Communism internationally. In essence, the law states that corporations who create jobs overseas will not be taxed on earnings that stay overseas.

Immediately, one can observe that this type of tax law will hurt the American economy in two ways; the first is loss of jobs, while the money that stays overseas is neither taxed, nor introduced into the economy. Corporations all across America face tough decisions. Stay here and provide jobs for the local economy, or go abroad and take advantage of the incentive the Federal Government gives for doing so?

To put it bluntly, our Federal Government uses working American citizens to subsidize this tax incentive for companies who create jobs…overseas.

In other words, you and I are paying for GE or Nike to layoff American workers so they can build a plant in another country and hire foreign workers. This tax law has become sort of a rallying cry every election season. Both parties realize it’s a hot topic; has been for nearly thirty years. Both Republicans and Democrats immediately ignore this tax law the moment elections are over, and we don’t hear about it for another four years.

And why should Republicans or Democrats care? Why should they change a tax law when they know that the moment they do, the lobbyists who contribute so prolifically to their party coffers will close their wallets? Lest you think the blame lies with one party or another, please understand that both parties have had ample opportunity to change this law, and both have ignored it completely. They instead choose to use it as political capital; buying votes with it, because it sounds so good in the campaign slogans we hear every election.

There’s only one fix to this problem; change the tax laws so that all overseas income is taxed at the same rate as domestic income. If this does not occur, jobs will continue to leave our economy, and Americans will continue to subsidize their own layoffs.

The Cold War is over. Everybody lost; but none more than the everyday American citizen, who continue to foot the bill for a shortsighted tax law that only ever created another loophole for corporations to jump through.

If John McCain or Barrack Obama really cared about the economy, if they are serious about reform, they can start with this one, and they start immediately. Why wait until after the elections?

The answer is simple; wait and wait and wait because the longer they do, the less likely it is they will have to do anything. Remember, Washington allows lobbyists inside the offices of your elected officials, and so long as they do, this tax law might never change. Both parties have too much to lose, namely in the form of contributions from those same lobbyists.

But we can do something about it. We can write or call our Senator, and insist they change this silly tax law. We can demand that corporations who move jobs overseas are no longer subsidized by American Citizens. We can change this, and we must, if our economy is become strong again, and if Americans are to see any real tax relief.

It’s fine and wonderful to talk about tax cuts for every American Citizen. But those tax cuts are just a red herring. They don’t really exist, because every penny of those cuts is swallowed up by the loss of jobs, and tax rates that skyrocket because less and less money is available for taxation from corporations.

Senators Obama and McCain know this. They’ve talked about it on the campaign trail. It’s our duty, to ourselves and to country, to force them to change it.
